Brief History:
While you may think of BOTOX Cosmetic as a wrinkle treatment, BOTOX has actually been in use for over 20 years as an effective treatment of many medical conditions. In fact, it has been approved for medical use in Canada and in more than 75 countries for 20 different medical conditions. Today, BOTOX Cosmetic has become the most popular physician-administered cosmetic treatment in North America with an estimated three million treatments performed annually.
How does BOTOX Cosmetic work?
BOTOX Cosmetic is directed at facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It targets what are known as dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscular contractions such as frowning and squinting. This is an injectable treatment derived from purified protein. It works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles giving your face a more refreshed appearance.
Where can BOTOX Cosmetic be used?
Treatment areas where BOTOX Cosmetic can be used include frown lines between eyebrows, horizontal lines that run across the forehead and crow's feet around outer eyes.
Will my face still be expressive?
BOTOX Cosmetic is intended to enhance the way you look, not change it. When administered by an experienced physician, you will still smile, frown and be expressive.
The treatment relaxes the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection. Other elements of your facial expression remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, which means you will experience normal sensation in the treated areas.
Are BOTOX Cosmetic treatments safe?
BOTOX has been licensed in Canada since 1990 as a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. In 2001, Health Canada approved BOTOX Cosmetic for wrinkle therapy.
What is the treatment like?
A tiny amount of BOTOX Cosmetic is injected very precisely into the muscle being treated. The pain associated with the injection is minimal. The sensation has been compared to a bug bite. No sedation or local anesthetic is required. You can resume normal activities immediately.
How long does a treatment take?
A BOTOX Cosmetic procedure is quick and simple. Following a facial analysis by your physician and a discussion on your desired outcome, the procedure takes about 10-15 minutes.
How much does the BOTOX Cosmetic treatment cost?
The costs associated with the treatment depend on the amount of product needed and the area of the face being treated.
For example, treating frown lines between the eyebrows typically costs $300 to $600 depending on the size of the area and depth of the lines. Since the treatment results generally last up to four months, it works out to less than $5 a day!
Who should not use this treatment?
Those who are pregnant, nursing or have a neurological disease should not be treated.
How soon will I see a difference and how long does the treatment last?
You can expect to see results within days after your treatment. Wrinkles and lines may continue to diminish for up to one week. The effect usually lasts up to 4 months. After repeated treatments, the effect may last longer.
Does BOTOX Cosmetic have any side effects?
Serious side effects are rare. For additional information on serious and non-serious of side effects please book a consultation at our clinic.
Do creams work better than BOTOX Cosmetic?
There is no scientific evidence showing that creams work better than BOTOX Cosmetic. Creams work well on the surface of the skin. BOTOX Cosmetic works below the surface of the skin to relax the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form.

BOTOX® Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Hyperhidrosis - Excessive sweating
Hyperhidrosis is a disorder that makes you sweat more than you need to. The cause is unknown but what is known is that the nerves that control the sweat glands become overactive. It can affect specific areas such as the armpits, hands, feet and/or face. Other factors such as diabetes, menopause, nerve damage and some medications can also cause excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis can cause skin breakouts, unpleasant odors and promote infection. It is estimated that 910,000 Canadians are affected by some form of Hyperhidrosis. Consult your doctor to obtain a proper diagnosis.
The good news about Hyperhidrosis is that it can be successfully treated. There are a number of options, but there is no single "right" way to treat Hyperhidrosis. Some treatment options include focal injections, topical treatments, oral medications, iontophoresis or surgery severs. However, BOTOX is the only prescription medication approved for the treatment of Hyperhidrosis.
Is BOTOX Hyperhidrosis treatment safe?
BOTOX is deemed safe and effective when used correctly by a trained doctor. For additional information you can schedule a consultation at our clinic.
What is the treatment like?
A small amount of the drug is injected intradermally to the affected area using a very fine needle. Any discomfort is minimal. You may choose to have a local anesthetic applied to the area before the injection.
In one study of excessive underarm sweating, 95% of patients experienced an average reduction in sweating of 83% in one week.
How long does the treatment last?
You should notice a significant reduction of sweating in the treated areas within a week of treatment. Most patients will obtain 5-6 months of dryness with one treatment. The effect lasts up to 7 months on average
