What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains many different growth factors and cytokines that stimulate healing. What was traditionally used as a treatment protocol for only soft tissue injuries has now expanded to the medical cosmetic skincare industry.

What is known in the industry as “The Vampire Treatment”, is a popular procedure for skin rejuvenation that utilizes your own bodies healing abilities to stimulate skin recovery and healing. PRP injections can help reduce lines and wrinkles, and improve collagen production.

PRP can be injected under the eyes, forehead, the nasolabial folds (smile lines) and even deep wrinkles to stimulate collagen regrowth. After the treatment, the area will rejuvenate and tighten, and will improve your skin tone, color and appearance. The injections will provide essential growth factors that stimulate collagen synthesis, skin renewal, cell growth, and tissue regeneration.

Your Body’s Natural Healing Power

Using your own plasma permits the body to repair faster and more efficiently creating a network of collagen. Because your own plasma (autologous) is used, there is no danger of disease transmission, anaphylaxis, or neoplasia.

The platelet-rich plasma will help tighten, re-contour, and regenerate the tissue where they are injected.

Benefits of Platelet-Rich Plasma for Skin:

  • Skin renewal and tightening
  • Visibly improved skin tone and texture
  • Skin will appear smoother, hydrated and glowing
  • Improved volume: combined with dermal fillers, PRP can lift and create more volume in the skin
  • Collagen production: stimulate the growth of healthy tissue, new collagen, more blood vessels
  • Tissue regeneration
  • Stimulate growth of healthy tissue
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Long-lasting results that will continue to improve even after the treatment

What is the Process?

A very small amount of blood is drawn from the patient into a sterile tube in the exact same manner as a standard blood sample. The tube containing a patient’s blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the platelets from the other blood components. After a few minutes, the concentrated platelets are removed from the same tube and re-introduced into the patient. Using a sterile needle, we inject the PRP in problematic facial areas. This is all accomplished without using any animal products or other foreign material. Areas of treatment could be face, neck, jawline, décolleté, hands and more.

Platelets gradually increase collagen and the overall health of the skin. The newly produced collagen begins to plump the skin and reverse the visible signs of aging. The skin will appear to be slightly sunburned for up to 48 hours with little or no associated discomfort. Within two to three weeks, most patients notice that their skin feels and appears firmer and has a healthy, vibrant glow. The improvements will be noticed in just a few weeks and continue over the next 12 to 18 months, as new collagen production continues to improve the overall appearance of the dermis.
